Following the huge success of our previous day out to the Peak District we're going back with our wonderful guide, Chris King, on Saturday 18th August to a different region, Bleaklow.

According to wikipedia, much of the main plateau of Bleaklow is a peat moorland in poor conditions its traverse is probably the most navigationally challenging in the Peak District. On 3rd November 1948 a Boeing Superfortress of the US Air Force crashed at Higher Shelf Stones. A large amount of wreckage is still visible. In exceptional weather conditions it is possible to see Snowdonia, and the 'Three Peaks' of the Yorkshire Dales.

We'll have a nice 5 hour jaunt around the tallest hill in the peaks, making it a beautiful day in the countryside away from cars, roads and shops. From the top, weather permitting, the weather is stunning! It's not a gentle walk but it's not difficult, there will be some sections requiring effort but on the whole it will not be a hard day.

You will need:
Good shoes, ideally walking boots /approach shoes (like very sturdy trainers)
Reasonably good waterproof jacket and trousers
A packed lunch
Water

With such stunning scenery and gorgeous climbing, how could you say no?

Tickets are on sale now from the SU reception, B floor Portland Building, £15 adult. We'll be leaving from East drive (bottom of Portland building) at 8.30 am and plan to be back around 7pm.
